Purple Lights Kildare Disability Week

Kildare Disability Week

Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world

Buildings around Kildare will mark the week by lighting up in purple and people across the County are encouraged to get involved in Kildare Disability Week and show support by:

  • Wearing a piece of purple clothing
  • Decorating your premises/shop front windows in purple
  • Displaying message on digital notice boards in support of day.
  • Purple background for virtual meetings

Join in the online conversation using the hashtags #IDPwD and #PurplelightsKildare.

There will be a number of new initiatives launched by Kildare County Council during this week.

  • Access All Areas: Developed by Celebridge Access Group (CAG) working in partnership with local businesses in Celbridge to make people with disabilities feel welcomed as Customers
  • JAM Card: allows people with a learning difficulty or communication barrier to show that they need “Just A Minute” in a non-verbal way
  • Our Wold – Disability Awareness Education Programme: Led by Maynooth Access Group consists of toys that can be lent to preschools and schools to educate children to increase awareness
  • Naas Community Bus: A joint inititive between An Garda Siochana and Naas Municipal District to support community groups and vulnerable minorities. The bus is fitted with a wheelchair lift
  • Kildare Inclusion in Schools Project:  Partnership initiative between CKAN, DESSA and Kildare County Council to create a positive understanding and awareness of equality amongst the students and provide practical skills for students to ensure their schools are accessible to all
